Remediation Programs

Excel Classes
Excel classes are similar to a traditional summer school program. High school level students who attended school regularly but received a failing grade in a course have the opportunity to make-up the class and to earn a credit in 30-hours. Excel classes are conducted year-round, before and/or after the regular scheduled school day.

Tutoring Programs
• Several tutoring programs are available to students before and after school. These programs offer educational enrichment for at-risk elementary, middle and high school students, who wish to become successful in their academic classes. In the tutoring classrooms students work one-on-one with their tutors and staff to build skills in reading and math, to complete their homework, and to strengthen their sense of self-esteem and self-respect.

Peer Tutoring – Student volunteers, whose work with individuals or pairs of students are the heart of this program. In addition, to offering academic support, student volunteers serve as friends and role models to the students.

SAT Tutoring – Students meet in small groups and prepare for the SAT. They become familiar with the test format and test taking strategies.

PSSA Tutoring – Students participate in after school tutoring designed to prepare students for the Pennsylvania State System of Assessment. This is available for reading, math, and writing.

Unsatisfactory Academic Performance – Students who earn a failing grade in an academic course are required to participate in tutoring until their grade improves.
