Special Education Program

GJR School provides a full spectrum of special education services. As students transfer from their home school district to George Junior Republic a re-evaluation, Notice of Recommended Educational Placement (NOREP), and Individual Education Plan (IEP) are completed. The continuum of Special Education services include:

Life Skills
This program meets the needs of the most challenged students. Its goal is to provide students with academic instruction to accomplish functional life skill activities. In addition to a classroom, this learning environment contains a kitchenette and laundry area.

Itinerant to Part-time Learning Support
The amount of learning support provided to each student is determined by his individual achievement, and the prior level of support he received from his home school district.

Full-time Emotional Support
This level of service is provided to students with severe emotional needs. The majority of these students are court appointed to a Special Needs Unit.
